Batting first, Belhus reached 143 for 9 in their 40 overs as the runs were hard to come by. S. Bayford with 24 and a late flurry from T.Udell 22* unfortunately were the highs, as the Rayleigh bowlers bowled very tight, as Merton proved with 3 for 14 off 8 overs.

Rayleigh must have thought they had the game safe when the fourth wicket fell with the score at 80, but some quality bowling from Francis Baptiste proved to be the turning point in the reply.
