Horton Kirby v Belhus Cricket Club Midweek XI on Mon 31 May 1999 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 10 Runs
Match report
Belhus 229 for 7
Horton Kirby 219
Belhus beat Horton Kirby in this exciting Bank Holiday Monday time game by 10 runs.
Batting first, Lambert and Wakely put on 123 for the 1st wicket until Richard Wakely fell for a fine 51, but Terry Lambert was star of the show with a very good 80, including 13 fours and 1 six. He was supported by Jim Banner 29, but both fell within 1 run of each other. Wayne Read added 24 not out, before the declaration.
Horton Kirby set about chasing the total from the off as R Taylor scored a majestic 136 before he was run out - a shame he didn't get the support he deserved, as when he fell with the score at 209 for 8, the game was in the balance and neither side gave up hope of the victory. John Forrest and Jim Robertson both bowled well, Forrest bowling 14 overs 1 for 57 and Robertson wicketless in his 11 overs, but it proved to be Mark Winter's lovely spell of tight, controlled bowling that was to be the deciding factor in this match and seal Horton Kirby's fate. His spell of 12.3 overs, 2 maidens, 44 runs, saw him pick up 6 wickets and see us home in a very exciting finish.
