Batting first at South Ockendon Recreation Ground in this Readers South Thames League match, Bexley amassed 237-4 declared after 36 overs as opener C. Castleton stroked a magnificent 124 not out.

In our run-chase after tea, our batsmen didn't quite get into their stride as 6 of them were dismissed for 'ducks' and we were bowled out for 5 - although we resisted for 16.3 overs. This was the lowest team score in the club's history.

2007 was the first season the club made the brave decision to field a 4th XI - and we entered the strong Readers South Thames League with all of our away fixtures entailing a trip across the QE2 bridge. It proved a difficult season for our 4th XI players as can be seen by the results.

However, it paved the way for great things to come. Just 2 years later, in 2009, our 4th XI finished Runners-Up in their Division in the club's inaugural season in the Shepherd Neame Essex League under the captaincy of Paul Whitlock. And then the following season, 2010, the 4th XI, again skippered by Paul Whitlock, were crowned champions of their SNEL Division. That decision made in 2007 provided cricket for members who might not otherwise have got a game, and laid the platform for the future. Fortune clearly favoured the brave . . . well done Belhus.
