Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 v Rainham on Wed 10 Jul 2019 at 18:00
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 23 Runs
Match report
The Under 11s welcomed Rainham to a friendly match at North Stifford on a lovely Wednesday evening. In a 20 over, 4 overs per pair format (old rules), and losing the toss, Belhus were asked to bowl first. Frankie started the innings off well bowling a maiden in his first over and this was followed by James Parker bowling a maiden in his first over too as Belhus were unlucky not to have gained a few wickets early on. The first wicket came in the 4th over off the bowling of James Parker as James Webb ran out Hudson from Rainham. Dave T. of Rainham (who was nearly 6ft tall for an 11 year old!) hit 21 runs in his 4 overs and Ibrahim hit 21 also as Belhus only found 2 further wickets off the bowling of Max Ballard and Austin Medlock who both clean-bowled Rainham's Chay in consecutive overs. Some overthrows towards the end unfortunately enabled Rainham to post a daunting 91 runs within 20 overs.
In reply, Belhus started off the innings well and were sitting on 17 runs for no wicket after 3 overs thanks to some wayward early bowling from Rainham. Ronnie from Rainham then put the brakes on as he picked up 1-4 off his 2 overs as well as a run out and this dented the start a little. Good middle order knocks from Luke Trotter who hit a lovely pull shot for 4, and from Zeeruk who scored 9 runs before being bowled in his final over, pushed the score up slightly. However, Dave T. followed on from his batting and picked up 3 wickets for 1 run in his 2 overs which left lots to do for Belhus. A great partnership between young Max Ballard and Austin Medlock who put on 20 runs together in 4 overs re-ignited the innings, and left George Hirt and James Webb to try and win the match. With 4 overs left Belhus still required a huge 51 runs for victory, and although a 28-run partnership at the end between James and George who batted superbly under pressure to score 10 runs and 14 runs respectively, Belhus came up short by 23 runs.
Overall, 8 wickets lost in comparison to 3 wickets tonight probably was the difference. A good game of cricket mind you. Thanks to Rainham for coming over.
