Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 v O & T Titans on Thu 04 Jul 2019 at 18:30
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 10 Runs
Match report
The Under 11s had a nailbiting win over Orsett and Thurrock Titans in the league last week. On a lovely Thursday evening Belhus welcomed Orsett and Thurrock to North Stifford. Winning the toss, James Webb decided to bowl first. A decision that proved to be the right one as Belhus were on fire. Orsett after 6 overs were sitting on 11 runs for 6 wickets. A magic spell by William Sullivan (3 wickets 1 maiden for just 1 run) in his 2 overs was the spell of the day. Left arm bowling pitching the ball up and clean-bowled Freddie twice and Henry once, well bowled Will. Ben Gladman 1-5 off his 2 overs as well as Oliver Davy's 1-7 off his 2 overs combined with a direct hit run out from Dylan Sinfield made sure Orsett had something to think about early on. Not a single wide in the first 7 overs from the Under 11s combined with some excellent ground fielding in the ring really created pressure for Orsett. Alex and Riley fought back with 17 and 12 hard-earned runs each for Orsett in the middle overs, but wickets were still tumbling. James Maynard picked up the wicket of Yuvi in his 3rd over thanks to a brilliant catch from Dylan at backward point to finish with figures of 1-14. Dylan then picked up 2 wickets of his own in his 3 overs as he clean-bowled Oliver with a lovely delivery then held on to a good caught and bowled in the same over. James Webb then delivered and picked up 4 wickets for 5 runs, arguably also the spell of the match, as he pitched the ball up and clean bowled Oliver twice and Jake once and James Maynard finished off the innings by holding on to a catch at cover as Orsett finished on a dizzy, but hard earned 85 runs, for 13 wickets. A great bowling and fielding performance from everybody. 13 wickets is the most we have taken all season so well done.
In reply, we knew Orsett would be a strong bowling team, and the 46 runs which were needed for victory wasn't going to be easy. Oliver and Aaryian started up and Oliver hit a nice slog sweep for 4 before being bowled 2 balls before he was to retire. William Sullivan batted very well at number 3 scoring 6 runs including a lovely pull shot for 4. a good knock also by George Hirt with 7 runs to his name including the shot of the day with a cover drive for 4 pushed Belhus up close. Riley and Oliver bowled exceptionally well for Orsett finishing with figures of 2-1 and 2-9 respectively off their 2 overs each. James Maynard added six valuable runs at number 8 and when Dylan Sinfield and James Webb came together the scores were very close. In the pitch black, the boys batted extremely calm and resilient under pressure. With Orsett's quickest bowlers on in the dark which was tough conditions, luck was in our favour as 2 balls went for 4 byes in the 18th over. James Webb added 4 runs and Dylan Sinfield 8 runs and although James Webb nervously got bowled in the final over, Belhus managed to get over the line by 10 runs. A well deserved victory in a close fought game of cricket.
An excellent game, credit to Orsett who bowled extremely well in the middle overs and especially at the end, but this game of cricket was won by us in the field tonight, an excellent bowling performance that much deserved the win.
