Basildon & Pitsea v Belhus Cricket Club Under 11 on Sun 26 May 2019 at 09:30
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 50 Runs
Match report
The Under 11s continued their league campaign on Sunday against a strong Basildon and Pitsea team at Mopsies Park. Losing the toss, we were asked to bat first and began steadily with Zeeruk, on debut, hitting 2 then unfortunately creaming one straight to Basildon's Mitansh off the bowling of Henry. William Sullivan provided some resistance in the middle order with 6 runs. However, Belhus were sitting pretty nervously at only 20 runs after 10 overs. We rebuilt through the efforts of James Maynard, on debut who played the innings of the day and scored 23 runs including 5 boundaries, hitting the ball incredibly hard and piercing the fielders often. He was ably supported by Luke Trotter (5) and after 20 overs Belhus were sitting on 68 for 7 wickets, giving us a Net total of 47 which was probably 20 runs short of a good score. Credit to Basildon’s bowling particularly Ted who picked up 1-4 with his lovely left-arm bowling as well as Mitansh who picked up 1-3 off his 2 overs.
In reply, Belhus started well with Lewys Worley picking up a quick wicket in his 2nd over when he clean-bowled Basildon's Charlie. Basildon then went into their shell after this wicket and in the next 3 overs Belhus only conceded 2 runs as Ben Gladman and Luke Trotter bowled 2 excellent first overs which were both maidens. Ben then bowled a lovely 2nd over clean-bowling Hayden finishing with figures of 1-4 off his 2 overs. In the next period Basildon recovered through good knocks from Oliver (14) and Daniel (30) two players who are regulars in their Under 13 side put the breaks on us. Rhys Williams, James Maynard and Zeeruk all bowled really well given the circumstances, and although Oliver Davy picked up the wicket of Mitnash in the penultimate over, it wasn’t enough and Basildon were deserving winners by 50 runs.
A good effort from everyone. B & P were a particularly older side with mostly 11 year olds and a few who feature in their older youth groups. We could have bowled a little better towards the end, however credit to Basildon - they batted well. Well done to Oliver Davy and Luke Trotter who kept wicket this game. We are now sitting at 2 wins and 1 defeat in the league so far, which is an excellent start with plenty still to play for. More to work on at training on Friday.
