Belhus Cricket Club Won by 16 Runs

Match report Henry Overy bowled with great effort and aggression to match sister Izzy's feat earlier in the season of taking five wickets in an innings for the first time as Belhus squeezed to an exciting, narrow victory at St Clere's School as they took on Horndon in the league.

Belhus lost the toss and were invited to bat by their hosts. Opener Jack Thomas (46) got things moving swiftly and Belhus were well placed at 70 for 1. But the wheels came off big time for Belhus after Thomas was dismissed as they slipped to 100-6. Skipper Jim Robertson knuckled down to make an important 55 runs which was to prove vital in the context of the game. Belhus eked their way to 175 all out albeit not batting their 45 overs which was disappointing but at least a competitive total was posted. Abid, Laurie and Rutland all took two wickets apiece for Horndon.

The Belhus bowlers started well, Ricki Ellis playing his first match for 8 years took two early wickets ending up with 2-28. Tyler Robertson was miserly taking 2 for 22 from 10 overs including 5 maidens and Aiden Fourie took 1 for 33 but the Belhus hero was young Henry who took 5 for 18 including four clean bowled victims. The game swung to and fro as Horndon seeming had the game won as Mager (28) and Marriott (43) had them approaching 100 for the loss of just two wickets but a collapse saw Belhus hit back and despite 32 from Rutland Belhus triumphed by 16 runs.
