Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 5th XI v Hadleigh & Thundersley 4th XI (85 Overs) on Sat 18 May 2019 at 12.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 9 Wickets
Match report
Belhus 5's christened their new home venue, Corringham Recreation Ground, with a handsome 9 wicket victory over Hadleigh and Thundersley to make it two wins out of two in their league campaign. With Hadleigh choosing to bat, Tyler Robertson struck early to remove Klein thanks to a fine catch by Billy Baker in the gully. But the visitors mounted a steady rebuild getting to 76-1 before the wily Cliff Cansdale entered the attack. His probing flight and frugal line and length bewitched the Hadleigh batting as he weaved a magical spell capturing 5 wickets for just 12 runs from 9 fine overs. The Overy siblings Henry and Izzy both took a wicket each and Billy Kilduff made a fine run out as Belhus dismissed Hadleigh for 119.
Belhus batted with extreme confidence as Ewan Day (a career-best 79 with 7 fours and 1 mighty six) and Henry Overy (31 with 3 fours) united to add an unbeaten partnership of 97 for the second wicket to ease the 5th XI to a fine win. Genthe was the Hadleigh wicket taker bowling well to take 1 for 20. Well played Belhus.
