Belhus Cricket Club Under 9 v Mini Matchplay on Sun 19 Aug 2018 at 9.30am
Belhus Cricket Club Won
Match report
Basildon and Pitsea and Gorebrook visited Belhus for the Charity Day for a mini matchplay tournament between the Under 9s and Under 11s.
This day was a special day to not only raise money for a great cause, but to also celebrate the brilliant success of colts cricket that was demonstrated at the club this year. Belhus Lions played The Monsters in the first game and were split evenly to allow for a fair game. Belhus Lions totalled a Gross score of 76, ( NET 45) and The Monsters fell short by 3 runs. (NET 42). After this match Belhus decided to just field one side as numbers were limited on the day. Belhus Lions then played Basildon and Pitsea and fielding first restricted Basildon to a NET score of 41, good bowling spells by everyone and wickets for Max, Oliver, Rhys, Charlie and Aaryian. Belhus set about the chase really smart by running quick singles in the first 6 overs to allow the score to tick over - a fantastic last pair innings between Ben and Rhys allowed us to score a NET 67 winning by 16 runs.
The final match of the tournament saw Belhus play Goresbrook and fielding first restricted Goresbrook to only a NET score of 22, great fielding by everyone claiming 3 run outs and multiple catches and good spells by everyone on the day. Belhus then finished the season off in style as they scored a whopping NET score of 86 in just 8 overs, a few sixes were hit on the day the biggest probably hit by Max Ballard. The winning margin of 64 runs sealed the victory for Belhus. This day was not about winning as every player who participated on the day received a medal but Belhus did finish off the season in style winning all 3 of the tournament matches and were crowned Winners of the Charity Day Mini matchplay tournament and were presented with a Trophy for there efforts. Very well done lads it was much deserved!
And after all of the efforts this season by the team, some individual awards were then presented. It's not nice singling individuals out because Cricket is a team game but congratulations to Aaryian Kansagra on winning the 'Most improved Player of the Year' award. Aaryain Joined us only this year and has come on leaps and bounds considering he was completely new to cricket. Aaryian played in nearly every match and took wickets in most of them, his consistency has been excellent this year and has been very keen to learn, a worthy winner of the most improved player, well done! - Special mention to Max Ballard and Lewys Worley who were next on the list for this award, Both have come on leaps and bounds this year Lewys especially With his batting and it showed during the Benfleet game, I look forward to seeing more progress next year little man!
The 'Player of the Year' was extremely hard to decide. I was torn because most have bowled, batted and fielded really well this year. however Rhys Williams I thought really come out of his shell in terms of his confidence - those who were here last year would know exactly what I'm talking about. He was enthusiastic this year during not only training but matches as well, was very keen to learn and worked extremely hard in the nets after the game - always wanting to improve. The difference in attitude, and the way he presented himself this year was great to see. Not only that, he did fantastically well individually taking 3 wickets one game, and scoring 17 runs in a vital period of the game against Benfleet earlier in the season. He has even gone on to play a hard ball game against Stanford-le-Hope a few weeks ago and did extremely well in his first match so good luck next year Rhys I hope you do well. Special mention also to Oliver Davy, William Sullivan and Ben Gladman who have all put in very notable performances this year and really stepped up being the older individuals in the Under 9s. Well done to Ben for captaining the side this year and congratulations to everyone in the Under 9s this year.
It has been a thoroughly enjoyable season and I hope everyone has enjoyed the cricket this year. I can speak for myself and my Dad in that we have really enjoyed coaching the Under 9s this year. There is a lads/girls vs Parents match I believe on the following Sunday 2/9/18. It's a great laugh so if you can make it down on the morning it would be much appreciated. Those who can't attend, we hope to see you all next year when the winter training begins in February at the Hathaway Academy. As always, there will be emails going around to inform you of this. I am unsure what age group I will be coaching next year but I will be around helping every age group in February so I look forward to seeing you all then. Winter well..
