Belhus Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets

Match report Belhus capped their fine competitive season fixtures by triumphing in a tense final against Orsett and Thurrock Knights at Southchurch Park to become SEDCB U13 League Champions.

Belhus lost the toss and were asked to field. As so often this year, Tyler Robertson struck the first blow for Belhus bowling Isaac Long for 10. Max Cook made 21 before Billy Kilduff had him caught by Oliver Plunkett. Callum Greene batted well for a fine 26 before retiring. Puneet Bal struck a key blow bowling Alex Brazier for 19 and then Belhus were able to squeeze things. Alex Blake and Oliver Plunkett both bowled excellent spells going for just six runs apiece from their 2 overs. Henry Overy then ran out Gab Seaton and bowled Tommy Fleming, and Belhus were able to restrict the Knights to 117-5 from their 20 overs.

Belhus started well with openers Henry Overy (15) and Teddy Waters (16) looking good before both being adjudged LBW in quick succession. Alex Blake steadied Belhus's nerves with a calming 26 not out before retiring. Healy (9), Plunkett (6) and Kilduff (1) all fell as the Knights fought hard to claim an unlikely victory. But Kaelan Casey (14 not out) kept a cool head for Belhus and Charlie Ovey with a vital 10 off just 4 balls all but sealed the win before he too was dismissed. Robertson joined Casey who then hit the winning run to see Belhus home to a fine win against tough opponents. There were wickets for Flain, Seaton, Greene, Davis and Millard for the Knights. A good, tense, hard fought final played in good spirit. Well done boys.
