Belhus Cricket Club Under 13 Spitfires v Westcliff-on-Sea on Mon 09 Jul 2018 at 18:00
Belhus Cricket Club Won By 4 Wickets
Match report
A day after their cup final heart-break against Hadleigh, Belhus faced Westcliff-on-Sea in the league semi final at North Stifford on a breezy, cloudy evening. Belhus lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Westcliff started like a train as Akash thumped a rapid 25 before retiring. Belhus appeared to have a cup final hangover as Westcliff charged to 35-0 off just four overs. Gradually Belhus clawed their way back into the match. Charlie Ovey bowled 2 overs for just 7, Alex Blake 2 overs for just 1. Then wickets started to fall, Puneet Bal and Billy Kilduff both claimed a victim with catches held in both instances by Aidan Fourie. Kaelan Casey made a fine run out and Belhus were clawing their way back into the match. But Chauhan (21) and Smith (13) kept the scoreboard ticking. The last over saw two more wickets as 'keeper Healy made a fine run out and Henry Overy bowled Smith to close the innings at 120-5 from the allotted 20 overs.
Belhus had not been at their best but they had a fighting chance. They lost wickets steadily but Henry Overy held things together with 23. Belhus were 68 for 6 when Billy Kilduff joined Rob Healy with 7 overs left. Ellas Nolle (2-10) had seemingly put Belhus on the back foot but this key partnership turned the game. Healy made 25 with 4 fours before retiring, and Kilduff saw the ship home with 11 balls to spare making a fine 16 not out with 2 fine boundaries.
So Belhus will play in the final on the 22nd July. Well done boys and best of luck in the final.
