Rankins v Belhus Cricket Club Under 9 on Sun 24 Jun 2018 at 9.30am
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 41 Runs
Match report
On a lovely Sunny Sunday morning, Belhus Under 9s visted Rankins for a friendly fixture due to a cancelled league game earlier in the week.
Stand-in captain for the day Rhys Williams won the toss and elected to bowl first which proved wonders as Lewys Worley picked up 2 early wickets in his 2 overs which were both brilliantly caught by Katy Sullivan who kindly helped out for the day. Oliver Davy opened the bowling with Lewys and although was wicketless bowled 2 great overs incredibly straight against a very good Rankins opening batsman who scored 20 runs including 5 boundaries in his allotted 4 overs. Ben And Rhys then followed up and bowled 4 overs between them for just 7 runs, which included a great wicket from Rhys in his first over which was caught very well by Oliver Davy. Rhys's 2nd over was a maiden and Ben bowled a fantastic 2 overs which was a delight to watch, and although didn't gain a wicket he bowled well enough on the day to get a wicket or 2 - the best spell of bowling on the day. The Sullivan Duo Katy and William then bowled next and continued the good work, Katy took a great caught and bowled off her first ball which totalled her catches for the day to 3 - a quite remarkable stat. William's first over was superb and was unfortunate not to clean bowl a few of their batsman as multiple balls just bounced over the top of the stumps - any other day probably a different result. Debutant Charlie Baldwin bowled next and took his first wicket for the club as he clean-bowled one of the Rankins batsman, his celebration and excitement after was the highlight of the match and he was well congratulated by all of the boys which was nice to see. Well done Charlie. Raam and Debutant Pranell then bowled the final 4 overs for just 10 runs, bowling well as Rankins finished on (NET 78 runs, for 5 wickets).
After some drinks, the boys then set off about the chase, needing a NET total of 53 for victory Oliver and Lewys set off the right way as Oliver hit a lovely pull shot straight past myself at square leg for 4. A nasty beamer from one of the Rankins bowlers hit Lewys on the head - however he responded in the best way possible and hit the shot of the day over mid-wicket for 4. The Rankins opening bowlers were very good and I felt Lewys and Oliver did a great job opening as it was not easy. Rhys and Charlie then batted next and probably was the turning point in the game as Rhys intelligently used his head and knew the Rankins fielders were on the boundry, instead of trying to hit boundries the boys decided singles was the best way to go about things and that was great to see. Charlie and Rhys ran fantastically well between the wickets and the calling was even better as Rhys finished with 12 runs and charlie with 7, most of which were singles apart from a cracking straight drive from Rhys for 4 just before there 4 overs had finished. Katy And Raam then were up and continued the great work left by Charlie and Rhys as they batted for 4 overs without losing a wicket, Katy hitting a nice 4 along with some nice running once again hitting multiple singles when the Rankins fielders were on the boundary. William and Pranell then stepped up debutant Pranell batted very sensibly hitting some nice singles and it complemented Will very well as he was allowed to do his own thing hitting 3 boundaries including a lovely straight drive over the bowlers head for 4 as he finished on 14. Ben then batted on his own with a runner at the end and although getting out early he stepped up to hit 12 runs including 2 lovely 4s through the leg-side which sealed the win for the boys.
A great game played in very good spirit, Thank you to Rankins for hosting us last minute, that's now 3/3 wins for the boys next up is Basildon and Pitsea at home on Wednesday evening so let's try and continue the good work! well done boys.
