Belhus Cricket Club Won By 83 Runs

Match report Belhus met Orsett and Thurrock Knights in the SEDCB League Cup semi final on a bright and breezy evening at School Lane, Orsett. Belhus won the toss and batted first. There was an early shock as skipper Teddy Waters was dismissed first ball by Isaac Long but Alex Blake settled the Belhus nerves with a brisk 25 with 6 boundaries before retiring. Oliver Plunkett started steadily before accelerating to 25 with four boundaries before he too retired. Henry Overy kept the score ticking with an aggressive 22 with four boundaries and Kaelan Casey joined the party with 26 including 5 boundaries before retiring aswell. This all added up to a daunting total of 151 for 6 from 20 overs.

The Knights felt they needed to start fast and Alex Brazier hit Tyler Robertson for 6 in the first over to show his intent. But Robertson had his revenge having Brazier caught at square leg by skipper Waters. Robertson then burst through the defences of danger men Long (2) and Greene (2) to leave the home side reeling at 20-3. Robertson ending up with 3 for 11. Kyle Hewson removed Max Cook thanks to a great catch by Plunkett. Charlie Ovey removed Tommy Fleming for 9 thanks to a fine one handed snag by Alex Blake. Belhus were on fire - Puneet Bal weaved a spell of spin magic taking 3 for 7 with catches from Robertson, Hewson and Henry Overy. It was left to Alex Blake (helped by another Plunkett catch) and Plunkett himself (aided by a Puneet Bal catch) to take the last two wickets and wrap up a fantastic all round Belhus performance. Belhus now face Hadleigh and Thundersley in the Cup Final on Sunday 8th July. Good luck everyone.
