Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 22 Runs

Match report Belhus returned to Herongate for the second successive week for another friendly. They provided a much improved performance but still fell 22 runs short in this much closer encounter. Skipper Jim Robertson won the toss and inserted the hosts but they started well as Hindley (38) and Le Cleach (23) led the way. Henry Overy (1-27) made the breakthrough thanks to a good diving catch by Lewis Blake. Lewis himself also grabbed a wicket thanks to a catch by brother Alex as Belhus clawed their way back into the match. Lewis also removed the dangerous Nottidge to end up with 2 for 24. Tyler Robertson (1 for 8) and Teddy Waters (2 for 27) kept making in roads for the visitors and Alex Blake made a fine run out to keep the pressure on. When Cliff Cansdale (2-12) and Rhys Goulden (1-42) wrapped the innings up for 169, Belhus felt they were in the match.

After an excellent tea, Belhus started well as openers Jim Robertson and Alex Blake added a 52 run partnership for the first wicket before Blake fell for 13 to the effective Bailey who ended up with 3 for 14. Terry Squires (22 with four boundaries) joined Robertson and they added 49 before Squires also fell to Bailey. Robertson misjudged a second run to be run out for 38 (6 boundaries) but at 119-4 with 12 overs left Belhus were still in with a great chance. But Gate skipper Rutland with 2-11 smothered Belhus who lost their way in the run chase - making only 28 from the last 12 overs and thus falling 22 runs short. Henry Overy battled hard for 24 (2 fours) but the home side held out for a good win.
