Belhus Cricket Club Under 9 v O & T Tigers on Sun 03 Jun 2018 at 10am
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 62 Runs
Match report
On a perfect sunny Sunday morning at the Village Green, Belhus U9 began their Mini Match-play season against local rivals Orsett and Thurrock Tigers.
Winning the toss, our U9 captain Ben decided to bowl first in this 16 overs encounter. Orsett started well against some good bowling from Oliver and Lewys and after 4 overs were 21 without loss. Max and Aariyan however put the brakes on the scoring with Aariyan picking up his first wicket for the club on debut thanks to a great catch from William. The great work in the field and with the ball continued as Rhys and William bowled a great spell to further restrict the scoring rate and this was finished off by an inspired spell from Albert who picked up 2 wickets (both clean-bowled ) and Ben to leave the opposition well short on the day with a net total of 42 runs from their 16 overs - there was also a fine run out following great work in the field from William and Oliver. After drinks, Belhus set about the chase with some gusto with Oliver hitting 3 fours in his 15 and Lewys contributing 7 in an opening partnership of 28 - good shots and some great running. Max and Aariyan continued the onslaught with Aariyan playing one of the shots of the day with a fine straight drive for 4. Enter Rhys and William who continued the good work with William hitting 2 boundaries and and a huge 6 over square leg clearing both the rope and the parents watching by some distance - a great shot and finishing on 15 runs.
The game was then finished off in some style by Ben and Albert with Ben scoring 14 including 2 boundaries. Belhus came out on top by a 62 run margin. A great game in which both sides did themselves and their clubs much credit.
Well played to both teams.
