Belhus Cricket Club Won By 1 Run

Match report Belhus followed up their narrow victory against Hadleigh and Thundersley with a last gasp dramatic win in the last over of this thrilling friendly encounter with Upminster. On another sun blessed Bank Holiday weekend morning at North Stifford, Belhus were put into bat by the visiting captain. Lewis Blake started well making 15 with 2 boundaries. Teddy Waters (20 retired) and Oliver Plunkett (9) continued steady accumulation but found it hard going against an excellent Upminster bowling attack. Henry Overy made 12 not out and Robert Healy 10 but Belhus knew that their total of 99-5 from 24 overs would be tough to defend and they would need to bowl and field with great skill to have a chance of a second win on successive days. Kai with 2 for 2 and Rashant with 2 for 7 were the pick of the Upminster bowling.

Belhus made an amazing start as Alex Blake ran out opener Liam from the first ball of the innings to give Belhus a great boost. Jack C (14) and Simon swung the game back towards the visitors but Dante Denton (2 for 10) made a vital breakthrough and Aidan Fourie (1-9) kept the pressure on for Belhus. Again Upminster seemed to take the initiative as Kai made a fine 19 to seemingly put them on the verge of victory as they required 19 from 6 overs with five wickets in hand. But skipper Waters bowled Kai, Overy removed Harry with a fine catch by Waters and the game turned again. Frantic running by the Upminster tail enders heightened the tension, which reduced the target but also led to a fine run out by Fourie for Belhus. The last over fell to the three wicket hero of the previous day, Tyler Robertson, with Upminster needing three runs to win and Belhus needing two wickets. The first ball produced another run out, Lewis Blake keeping a cool head this time. A bye followed and with two dot balls following the match was on a knife edge when Robertson bowled number 11 Sachin to win the game for Belhus by the narrowest of all margins as they sneaked home by 1 run. Another fine performance by the Belhus youngsters in what was a fine match played by two very even teams. Much credit to Upminster who filled the fixture void at very late notice and contributed heavily to a great match and which could have gone either way.
