Match report Belhus U13 got their season underway with a good win in this SEDCB Cup match on a beautiful sunny morning at Horndon Recreation Ground, a part of a jam packed cricketing weekend for Belhus across all ages over the Bank Holiday break - which was thankfully blessed with excellent weather.

Batting first, Belhus got off to a steady and ultimately strong start as openers Robert Healy (24) and Lewis Blake (19) added 58 in an opening stand across 11 overs with one boundary apiece before both retiring. Runs thereafter were distributed evenly across the team with the next highest contributors being Alex Blake with 9 and Charlie Ovey with 7*. There were 37 extras. The pick of the Horndon bowlers was Charlie Nicholls with fine figures of 2 for 7 from three overs.

Belhus bowled tidily as a unit to keep things in check. There were maidens from Izzy Overy, Freddie Phillips and Kyle Hewson who certainly impressed on his Belhus debut taking 2 for 6 in three overs. Seth Coehlo took the other wicket to fall with the help of a fine catch from Lewis Blake and Robert Healy also took a good catch behind the stumps. Ross Dixon was the main batting protagonist for Horndon with a well played 16 before retiring.

So a decent start for the young Belhus side who next week open their league campaign against Stanford-le-Hope.
