Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Orsett and Thurrock 2nd XI on Sat 08 Sep 2018 at 12.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 4 Wickets
Match report
Belhus entertained Orsett CC on Saturday knowing that 7 points would guarantee them promotion to Division 1 of the SNEL. After the long, very hot summer it was a target that fixed the concentration of the team.
Batting first on a very green wicket to gain maximum batting points and promotion, Belhus lost 2 early wickets. However Orsett hadn't figured with Zak Wilson and his recent good form. Batting with a real belligerence and aggression, he hammered 75 off 57 balls, despatching anything up or short to all parts of North Stifford. At 17 years of age, he bats with the belief of unattended youth and is a treat to watch. Supporting knocks from Wayne Read and Mark Sansom who batted very well for 27 not out took Belhus to 202 for 8 and innings declared. The Holy Grail of promotion had been attained.
After tea, and as per usual from the creative hands of Mrs Lewis. . .a fine, very tasty tea, Belhus entertained Orsett in the field. Orsett's openers batted well and set the platform for a victory by 4 wickets. The team's heart wasn't pumping fully after the promotion attainment but well done to Orsett for winning.
The consistency of selection, the ability of all players to raise their game when runs and wickets were needed, the team spirit, and looking after each other/pulling together when needed, has brought the team success and very well earned after this very hot summer. I would like to thank Julie Whitlock for her scoring. . . I'd be lost without her; Mrs Lewis for her catering skills. . .again what would I do without her !..Mr Randall for his umpiring skills and Peter Bright for his fantastic work in producing very, very good cricket wickets and general Groundsmanship.
Well done Belhus. Let's make sure that when we take the field next year we have the smiling face and wonderful affable, good nature of Stewart Farr in the forefront of our minds. He was a genuinely, lovely bloke who everyone spoke of with adoring tones. Next season, let's play for Stewart.
(John Lewis - Captain, Belhus 2nd XI).
