Belhus Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Fives and Heronians 2nd XI on Sat 21 Jul 2018 at 12.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 122 Runs
Match report
The sun drenched English Summer of 2018 rolled on as Belhus hosted Fives on Saturday. With the temperature hovering in the late 80s, the news that Belhus had been visited by lady luck with the toss brought glee and smiles to the home team...they were batting.
43 for the first wicket got things moving as Zak Wilson hammered anything offline on a very good cricket wicket offering pace and bounce. Well done Peter Bright. Charlie Lewis joined Zak at first drop and they decided to have fun in the sun. Their withering stroke play took the Fives attack apart as they posted 136 for the 2nd wicket. Zak (107) reached his hundred off 67 balls and Charlie (132) his hundred off 108 balls. They were a treat to watch. Imran then entered the fray and as per usual, upped the ante...64 off 41 balls was his usual pyrotechnic treat as the ball disappeared to all parts. At one stage the poor ball was found in a bush by the Village Hall...mumbling incoherently " please leave me alone...I'm battered and bruised". You're a bully Immy...
At tea Belhus totalled 354 for 5 in 45 overs which must have been a daunting target for a Fives team treated to 3 and a bit hours in the field.
After tea, and a fine tea it was too...Mrs Lewis's chocolate cake taking the plaudits...Belhus took 2 early wickets to stymie the Fives reply. Harbord and Norris then built a partnership of 134 for the 2nd wicket...both posting 68 runs...and were looking dangerous. Antonio then entered the attack to showcase his straight, very brisk, full length bowling and...bingo...he took out Norris with a full length inswinger. He bowled a very good spell and was most unfortunate not to take more wickets. Jamie Fairweather (3 for 33) and Deepak after seeing the benefits of attacking the stumps (3 for 50) cleaned up the rest of the Fives innings.
A good win, which got Belhus back on the bike after the disappointing results of previous weeks.
The 354 Belhus total was the second highest team total in the club's history (behind the 1st XI's 399 for 5 against Woodford Green CC in 2011) and the highest-ever 2nd XI team total.
