Belhus Cricket Club Lost By 7 Wickets

Match report Belhus fell to a second successive defeat in their Group D Brian Taylor Trophy clash with Upminster at a sultry North Stifford on Sunday morning. It was another close fought affair. Belhus batted first on winning the toss and openers Lewis Blake (37 with 5 fours) and Oliver Plunkett (44 with 5 fours) added a fine 104 partnership for the 1st wicket before they were both removed by the tidy bowling of J.Green (2-18). Belhus struggled to accelerate after this and nobody else was able to make a significant contribution as the Upminster bowling kept the rate under control. Belhus totalling 144-4 from their 25 overs with H.King (2-22) taking the other two wickets to fall.

Belhus knew they would have to bowl and field well on what was a good batting wicket and a speedy outfield. Tyler Robertson struck an early blow removing opener French for 1 thanks to a fine catch by Aidan Fourie but opener Lawes (31) and Upminster captain Berry (68*) made a fine 2nd wicket partnership of 118 to seemingly take the game away from Belhus. But Alex Winder bowled with exceptional heart and effort to get Lawes caught by Callum Constantine. The game went to the last over with the visitors needing 5 for victory. Winder bowled Siggins to keep Belhus's hopes alive but G King scored the 5 required runs with 1 ball to spare. A good effort by Belhus on a very hot morning and a good performance by Upminster and especially their Captain who played a fine innings.
