Match report A lovely spring day heralded the start of the season for the 2nd XI.

Southend batted first and their two openers rode their luck, struck the ball well and put on 111 for the first wicket. The introduction of spin through Deepak Sinha and Braydon Scarlett slowed the run-scoring down and brought wickets. Antonio bDarrell bowled well but Southend totalled 259 in their 45 overs.

In the Belhus reply, Adam Dudmish batted very well for 41 crisply, well crafted runs, and wassupported by Darrell (38), Wolfe (26) and Read (25) to push Belhus up to 227 all out. The top-scorer of the innings though was Mr Extras with 66, including 62 wides! A quite extraordinary number in a limited overs game and believed to be a record against Belhus. The poor Southend wicketkeeper was in shock after the game and had to be brought round with a 'large one' and told he didn't have holes in his gloves.
