Belhus conquered Shepherd Neame Premier division side Southend-on-Sea & EMT on Sunday afternoon in the 50-overs SNEL/Dukes League Cup semi-final. The travelling North Stifford-based cricketers showed their resilience as the first seven home batsmen all made significant contributions at Southchurch Park. Tom Phillipe had top-scored for Southend with 54 and Numan Khan posted 47 runs.

But Belhus captain Danny Joyce kept his nerve and led his team to a six-wicket win with an undefeated 91. Supporting Danny Joyce was younger brother Joe with 47, while Roy Heffernan made 27, Ryan Wells produced 37 runs while Martin Guilbert was at the crease with Danny Joyce when the target was reached, Guilbert finishing on 12 not out.


Earlier, the home side’s Oliver Wagstaff scored 19, Harry Ridgewell made 24, captain Joe Robbins struck 27, while Sam Rowe weighed in with an undefeated 23. Alex Karkoski added 15 but Robbins, Karkoski and Wayne Spear became victims of Belhus opening bowler Danny Norris, whose three scalps came at a cost of 43 runs from ten overs (one maiden). Vamshi Lingala provided valuable support with 2-48, also from ten overs. Guilbert and Matthew Doran picked up one wicket each. For Southend, Karkoski, Robbins, Ridgewell and Wagstaff picked up a wicket each, but were unable to stem the Belhus victory charge.

And Danny Joyce reached 1,000 runs for the season.
