Orsett and Thurrock v Belhus Cricket Club Under 13 Spitfires on Sun 20 Aug 2017 at 14:00
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 112 Runs
Match report
The Belhus Spitfires were shot down/crashed and burned/spluttered to defeat on Sunday in this extended format U13 friendly. Orsett won the toss and batted and made hay against a disappointing Belhus effort with the ball and particularly in the field where mis-fields were frequent and there appeared a genuine fear of the fiercely struck ball. Long (48), Humphries (51) and Brazier (48) were all able to retire in comfort as Orsett racked up 209-4. Alex Blake was the most successful Belhus bowler with 2-28. There was also a wicket for Puneet Singh Bal and a run out for Ethan Barnett.
In reply, Belhus had the rare opportunity to bat for 35 overs as opposed to the standard 20. But you would not have known it as we slumped to 32 for 5 in just 9 overs despite a quick 14 from Lewis Blake. Ali (3-16) and Khan (2-10) wrecked the Belhus top order and a quick finish looked likely. Thankfully Henry Overy showed some application and sound defence for Belhus - battling hard for 45 runs. Henry found an ally in Tyler Robertson (11) and both boys battled hard to put on a 45 partnership - comfortably Belhus's best of the day. Robertson took a nasty blow to the arm from the fiery pace of Humphries and departed soon after. Overy fell short of a deserved 50 and the Belhus innings was wrapped up not long after as Brazier snagged 2 for 10.
It was a poor day for Belhus and an eye opener to the longer format of the game. Credit to Henry who batted very well in difficult circumstances.
