This was the first instance of the club playing a team from Australia. The Kent Street High School touring side from Perth, Western Australia had been on tour to the UK for 3 weeks, and we had been asked (only 4 days previous), if we could accommodate them with a T20 match on the last day of their trip.

Our youth chairman, Richard Waters, moved with all speed and thanks only to help from players from Goresbrook, Orsett and Stanford-le-Hope, an Under 17 side was pulled together under the captaincy of Matt Doran (his debut match as captain of a Belhus side).

Batting first, we faced some fine pace and spin bowling from the visitors and although five of our batsmen reached double figures, they couldn't quite kick on as we mustered a modest 95 from our 20 overs. Reece Cousins was the pick of the KSH bowlers with 3 for 18.

After tea, we were unable to contain the KSH batsmen who marched home to a comfortable 7-wickets win and opener Jarrod Fisk was presented with the Man-of-the-Match award for his half-century.

An historic day with thanks to umpires Mike Randall and Tyrone Owen (Orsett), scorer Julie Whitlock and groundsman/BBQ chef Peter Bright - and Sue Waters for yet another tasty spread. And an invitation was extended to the club to visit Australia in the not-too-distant future . . .
