Belhus suffered a heavy defeat at Fairlop’s London Marathon Sports Ground on Saturday. The highlight was a fine innings of 57 from debutant Ashir Saleem. The only other visiting batsman to reach double figures was number ten Peter Clark with 13 runs. Fourth change bowler Salba Rahman produced Wanstead’s stand-out bowling figures of 3-18 from 4.3 overs as he mopped up the tail. But earlier, three other bowlers had produced economical returns in favourable conditions. Matloob Piracha finished with 1-14 from eight overs (two maidens), Hassan-Ali Iqbal’s 1-18 from seven overs (one maiden) was equally restrictive and Haaris Raza chipped in with 2-26 from eight overs.

After tea, Abdullah Mukhtar was trapped leg before by Saleem for 28 and Rahman was caught by Jai Chopra off the bowling of Mike Squires for 12. But Oliver Arnold saw the home side through to a comfortable eight-wickets win, aided by Dhilan Dhanjal who was 19 not out when the winning post was reached.
