Belhus made a strong start to their Shepherd Neame Essex League match at Harold Wood on Saturday as openers Richard Waters and Keith Dhannie plundered 87 and 42 runs respectively. Later, number six batsman Adam Dudmish struck 45 runs until he was run out by Wood’s Sean Boswell. The home side may not have been bowled out, but it mattered little in this 45-overs-per-side match.

Four home players reached scores in the thirties; Justin Palfreyman and Bilal Mohammed both made 37, while Darren Ellis and Michael Rowe hit 35 and 31 runs. These two were also the backbone of the Harold Wood bowling attack as Rowe’s 2-29 and Ellis’s 3-85 helped stem the flow of Belhus runs to a degree. Ashir Saleem, promoted to the third team following an impressive fourth eleven debut last week, picked up 2-40 from nine overs (two maidens). Sam Hall also returned two wickets, while there was one apiece for Alan Maidment, Sam George and Keith Dhannie.

The 3rd XI remain top of their SNEL Division after 13 matches.
