Batting first in this SNEL match at South Ockendon Recreation Ground, our 3rd XI batsmen didn't display their true talent as only one of them reached double figures - skipper Richard Waters, who held the innings together with a magnificent half-century. Neil Harvey bowled did the damage for Westcliff-on-Sea in taking 5 for 34 and we were dismissed for a miserable 108.

After tea, Westcliff batted steadily in their run-chase and were sitting in pole position with their score at 81 for 5. But the Belhus bowlers suddenly came to life and by aiming at the stumps they took the last 5 wickets for just 9 runs. All of our bowlers (Alan Maidment was our lead wicket-taker with a return of 3 for 30) contributed to Westcliff's downfall as they collapsed to 90 all out.

One of the great matches of the season - and one that will long be remembered. And it ensured that our fighting 3rd XI remain Top of their SNEL Division after seven matches of the 2017 League programme. Well played Belhus.
