Vauxhall Mallards v Belhus Cricket Club Senior Tour on Tue 25 Jul 2017 at 2pm
Match was Tied - on last ball of match
Match report
Belhus 200-6
Vauxhall Mallards 200-4
The second game of 2017 Senior Tour saw Belhus take on old foes Vauxhall Mallards at the lovely Halvergate ground and it proved to be an absolute thriller going down to the last ball of the match.
Batting first, Belhus posted a competitive 200 for 6 in their 40 overs, as R.Wells (38) got us off to a good start. We were then steady in the middle overs with V.Lingala 31 and B.Winter 21, but once they were out, this brought together M.Cansdale who scored a fine 41 with 7 fours, and W.Read who was 40 not out and ensured we got up to the 200 mark.
Mallards set about the run chase well, both M.Bishop 53 and D.Hudson 50 retired, still leaving Woodhead at the crease who batted very steadily for his 53, but wickets seemed to fall at the right time for Belhus and it was then only M.Austin who was showing any signs of winning the game for Mallards, in what turned out to be an enthralling finish. Still needing 14 from two overs, Lingala went for 9, This left Heffernan the thankless task of bowling the last over, but Roy set about this with spring in his step, the first ball was a dot ball, the second went for 2, then another two dot balls leaving 3 to win from 2, a single was taken and 2 were needed from the last ball of the day, tension crept in and Heffernan dragged it down and it was all Austin could do to try and smash it towards mid off, Winter made the stop and Cooley calmly threw it to the bowler's end for the bails to be removed, as they attempted the impossible second run - run out! game over and the match was tied, leaving Belhus the opportunity of still winning the tour series with the two remaining games.
