Match report Going into this game the feeling was that the fixture would be a fair indicator of the team's potential as, historically, Gidea Park & Romford are always a challenging opposition.

Having been inserted on a very firm, evenly-grassed wicket, Belhus lost an early wicket but a partnership of 97 between Darrell (43) and Lewis the skipper (70) pushed Belhus up to 100 for 1 at drinks. Further good knocks by Charlie Lewis (54 at better than a run a ball) and 17 and 19 in quick time by George Maidment and Mat Williams pushed the total up to 231 for 6 at tea.

Jane Baker provided her usual luxurious tea but this was eaten in the knowledge that Jane is retiring to Bournemouth so her final tea was scoffed with a tinge of sadness. But we live in hope she will return intermittently and join us in a cream tea with the new tea lady.

After tea, Imran was soon into his stride bowling once again a brilliant opening spell of 3 for 33 in 10 overs. His consistent, unrelenting off stump line is a captain's delight. Further inroads were made by Chris Porter (2 for 29) who bowled with flight and guile, Mat Williams (1 for 29) and a first wicket for Deepak which was expertly snaffled by Wayne Read at first slip. Martin-Hussey finished the innings off by castling the No. 11.

GPR rallied from 83 for 7 to eventually 155 all out. Young Harry Phillips of GPR was particularly impressive for a 15 year old with bat and ball...he bowls at a decent lick and strikes a cricket ball with a natural eye for the ball.

The team was pleased that the game had garnered 25 points and a victory. Belhus off and running.
