Belhus Cricket Club Charity Xl v Goresbrook Over 40's on Sun 28 Aug 2016 at 2pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 45 Runs
Match report
Belhus Over 40s played Goresbrook Over 40s in this friendly match for Charity.
Goresbrook were inserted in to bat by Richard Waters and his side took to the field, as Keith Dhannie and Paul Hall opened the bowling and much to Goresbrook's delight they put 51 on for the 1st wicket, before Hall had Brid caught by young Sub Kasey Cullen for 27 and Brook continued to enjoy the Belhus bowling in amassing 227 for the loss of only 3 wickets in their 35 overs.
Joe Wilkinson top scored with 76, Keith Friend having to retire on 53, Steve Obsen and Scott Barwick were undefeated on 24 and 18.
In reply, Belhus got off to the worst start losing John Forrest early for only 4, Jim Robertson followed a 'Belhus Collapse' and 4 wickets fell for just 2 runs! Peter Clark the 1st to go for his 30, then Brian Edwards 5, Paul Hall 0 and Robert Waters 0 2nd ball. Chasing 227 was always going to be tough, but with over half the side gone for 56n runs, a victory was along way off.
Keith Dhannie 10 and Richard waters 12 assisted Wayne Read as he did his best to try and get us home, but a rush of blood from the prolific Belhus batsmen saw him dance down the wicket to Scott Barwick, miss the ball and get stumped for 57 and at 142 for 9 the game was virtually over.
A brief cameo from John Wilson of 29 at the end, supported wonderfully by young Lewis Blake 6 batting for us as we only had ten men, saw us reach 182 before Wilson was bowled by Steve Obsen and the game was over. Obsen finished a fine day off with 5 for 25.
A big thanks to five of our under 9s, Kassey Cullen, Alex Blake, Lewis Blake, Teddy Waters and Tyler Robertson, who all fielded for 7 overs and bowled with combined figures of 6 overs 1 maiden (Alex) for 31 runs, very well done indeed boys.
So a good day was had by all as Goresbrook ran out victors, but it wasn't about the result, as we raised well over £700 towards Breast Cancer Charity.
