Match report SEDCB 20/20 Cup Final

Belhus went down bravely in a closely fought contest. Losing the toss, Belhus batted first. After losing three early wickets, Captain Teddy Waters returning from holiday and with barely a handful of hours sleep, led the counter attack. Waters top scored with 22 including 2 fine boundaries as together with Alex Winder, 16 including three boundaries, added a fine partnership of 38. Oliver Plunkett batted well to make 11 (one boundary)to lift Belhus to a total of 75-7 as we lost some late wickets to run outs as the press for late runs quickened. Credit to Rankins who bowled very well to keep the score manageable and field well to make five run outs.

Belhus knew they would have to bowl well to have a chance of glory and they certainly did. Reece Herbert got Belhus off to a flier taking 2 for 11. The visitors accuracy was exceptional as they produced a seasons best low for wides, just two ! Sammy Fairweather (1-6), Oliver Plunkett (1-9) and Teddy Waters (1-8) all took wickets to keep Belhus in the game and Owen Williams was superb bowling 2 overs for 2 bowling just one wide and conceding no runs off the bat. But Alfie Toomey played very well for Rankins retiring on 27*. Belhus kept things tight but Rankins got to their target in the 19th over to win the match and the cup.

Belhus have had a fine competitive season and played their hearts out in this close game. The squad have performed excellently this year and improved their skills on the way. To finish second in the league and reach a Cup Final is a fine effort. Well done to all our U11 squad.
