Match report After the previous two Saturdays had been washed out, the sunny, dry weather of 30th April 2016 was a welcome relief from the arctic conditions of the previous week.

Hutton decided to bat first on a green pitch and did well to reach 181 with kipper Simon Thurston hitting 45. The Belhus seam attack bowled well with Jack Martin-Hussey and Mat Williams sharing 7 wickets. Debutant Mat Jones looked very promising and George Maidment bowled a good consistent length. Sam Hall, after a tidy spell, donned the wicketkeeping gloves and took 4 catches. A fine effort.

A nice tea was taken in the knowledge that we would have to bat well to reach a very competitive 181 in 40 overs. In the event, after a fine opening partnership of 32 between Stuart Morris and Nick Marns, we contrived to collapse to 49 for 4. However, a partnership of 57 between Steve Huckstepp (27) and Chris Baker (36) righted the ship. Skipper John Lewis finished things off with 66 not out and we won by 3 wickets in an excellent game.

A special mention to Julie Whitlock our fine scorer who scored for us even though her father had passed away recently. Our thoughts are with her. The league season campaign starts next Saturday so the win was welcome for confidence and frequenting oneself with a cricket ball again. Well done Belhus.
