Match report Belhus started their Under 11 season well with a fine win in this friendly match at near neighbours Horndon-on-the-Hill.

Skipper Reece Herbert lost the toss and Belhus were invited to bat on a glorious summer morning. Belhus batted well losing only two wickets in their 20 overs. Oliver Plunkett top scored with 7 not out, whilst Reece Herbert and Tyler Robertson hit boundaries and were both unbeaten on 5. Aidan Fourie also hit a boundary four in his 4 not out and Henry Overy hit a boundary on his debut as he totalled 4. Ross was the most successful bowler for Horndon taking 2 for 2 as Belhus totalled 297 for 2, netted down to 287.

In reply, Horndon were under pressure quickly as Oliver Plunkett bowled two fine maiden overs, picking up 2 wickets in the process. Reece Herbert 1-7, Alex Winder 1-9 also bowled well and Sammy Fairweather, playing his first match for the U11s, picked up two wickets in his first over, ending up with figures of 2 for 10. Belhus were excellent in the field, with three runs outs underlining the fact. Serena Hand and Oliver Plunkett both executed direct hits and skipper Herbert made a fine stop with his foot which led to a run out as well. Liam top scored for the home side with 5 as they totalled 277, netted down to 232.

Belhus played well and deserved their win but much credit to a very young Horndon side who never stopped trying and contributed well to a game played in excellent spirit. Thanks to our hosts for a very pleasant morning in very welcome sunny conditions.
