Match report DEMOLITION DERBY

On a wild, windy day Belhus approached the Derby game against Horndon with a certain amount of confidence after the sequence of wins in the previous weeks but with a feeling that things would not be easy and any quarter given against the local opponents.

Batting first in the gale-like conditions, Belhus got off to a good start with Baker (51) and Read (33) posting 86 for the 1st wicket. Belhus then lost quick wickets with 104 for 4 and 150 for 7 suggesting a tight game if Horndon batted well in their innings. However, Huckstepp, in his usual pragmatic manner, crafted a very good 30 and then Imran smashed 43 off 24 balls, including a last over of 24 with 3 sixes. A total of 208 was a fine total on a sporting pitch offering plenty to the bowlers, with Cracknell of Horndon bowling very well for 2 for 27 off 16 overs and Petts 4 for 59 off 15 overs.

After tea, the sporting nature of the pitch was shown as Martin-Hussey produced a spell of quick swing bowling (5 for 16) off 7 overs to reduce Horndon to 37 for 7. Ably supported by Imran (2 for 23) and latterly Billy Maidment (3 for 11), Belhus stormed to victory by 151 runs.

Five wins on the spin and perched in 3rd place in our Division with just two matches remaining, the momentum is building. . .
