Match report Belhus were inserted on a green pitch that soon became wet after a heavy shower 10 minutes into the game which played into the hands of Butt who claimed 3 wickets in a testing opening spell. Good knocks from Read (27), Charlie Lewis (26) and Sansom (30) plus 38 extras got Belhus up to 161.

In reply, West Essex were soon two wickets down for 20 due to Mat Williams' opening spell, but missed chances allowed West Essex to reach 132 for 4 after 25 overs at which time a torrential downpour flooded the ground and allowed no further play. West Essex were deemed winners by a superior run rate.

The highlight of the day for Belhus was the 2nd team debut of 16 years old Braydon Scarlett who batted very sensibly and then bowled a superb spell of off-spin. His performance was heartening and bodes well for the future. Well done Braydon.

Next week is Leigh-on-Sea...oh for some dry, hot weather... here's hoping.
