Match report This match was played against a backdrop of black, foreboding storm clouds that circled the ground throughout play. When the lightning and thunder appeared, the players left the pitch for their safety but not a drop of rain was seen all afternoon.

The actual game was a muted affair probably due to the above. Belhus, having been inserted, collapsed to 48 for 5 but an excellent partnership of 56 between Guilbert (50) and Sansom (26) steadied things down and with 35 extras, Belhus reached 170.

Old Southendians' reply was aggressive from the start and soon reached 100 for the first wicket although early chances were squandered. The entrance of Billy Maidment into the attack quickly resulted in 3 wickets and a chance of a spectacular fightback, but again chances were missed and the Old Boys reached the total for 4 wickets.
