Match report Danny Joyce won the toss and elected to bat and immediately set to work with his brother Joe in setting a foundation for the side. A score of well over 100 was on the board when for the second time this season Joe departed against Harlow Town for a score of 97. 16 fours and 1 six had helped him to this total. Ryan Wells joined his skipper at the crease and kept up the momentum. A jaded Danny Joyce departed on 76 having somehow mustered the energy to leave his crease, but not having the energy to return, dismissed stumped for a well crafted 76. A lust blow for Norris followed but when he was run out for 8 the skipper declared on 242 for 3 in just 42 overs. Wells was stranded on a quicker than a run a ball 47 as he keeps up his recent form.

A depleted Harlow Town batting line up was left a minimum of 53 overs to get the 243 required to pull them away from relegation trouble. The opening Ali brothers got HT off to a great start with our bowlers just struggling slightly with their usual miserly discipline. Dan Norris returning to the the line up after injury and cruises tried hard but was unable to provide the required spark. With 70 on the board at a good lick, Gary Sanderson finally made the break with a cunningly disguised slower ball. 4 balls later and a great grab by Ryan Wells at second slip gave Sanderson his second. This brought the dangerous Holland to the crease. However, he was caught by Joe Joyce at mid wicket pulling a Dan Dreher bouncer and Belhus had made a vital breakthrough.

But the steady fall of wickets that was anticipated didn't follow. The stoic Shiraz Ali and Dan Farmer began to build again and the 7 wickets required seemed a long way away. Danny turned to his brother for inspiration and it was provided in his first over. Ali tucked one of his hip to square leg, Ali called "yes" but there was hesitation from Farmer. Eventually he set off, but in the mean time Guilbert had managed to cover the 2-3 yards required to get to the ball pick it up and get it into the eagerly awaiting 'keeper's gloves and remove the bails before Farmer was in the frame. Huge pressure now fell on Ali and he cracked in the next over when he was bowled around his legs by Brad Mason.

So Belhus got to the last over with 5 wickets required to pick up a vital 25 points. The skipper continued with the double spin threat of Joyce and Mason. And it was now that Joe came into his own. 4 wickets claimed for not many runs and Belhus were on the brink. Memories flashed back to last year when we were unable to get the last scalp in a game that proved very costly for us. A few overs passed and the 10th wicket partnership hung on in. 4 overs remained when Gary Sanderson remembered the Belhus bowling mantra "If they miss, you hit!" and with 23 balls remaining, Mohammed Ali was bowled and Belhus had earned a very hard 25 points increasing their lead in Division 2 to 34 points with 3 games remaining. Despite huge jug avoidance Joe Joyce was claimed MoM with his 97, 4 wickets and 2 catches (the second time he'd achieved the feat). Credit must be given to the skipper for an excellent declaration.
