Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 2nd XI v Mount on Sun 25 Sep 2016 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 99 Runs
Match report
Belhus played the Mount in the last game of the season at North Stifford.
Stand-in Captain Keith Dhannie, won the toss elected to bat first in this 35 over match and losing young Jamie Fairweather for 7 early didn't really hinder our batsmen, as we racked up a very healthy 273 for the loss of only 4 wickets.
Chris Baker helped himself to a fine 54 off 46 balls with 6 fours and 1 six, in a stand of 80 with Wayne Read. Jack Plane joined Read but unfortunately he failed to trouble the scorer in his quest for the 40 odd runs he required to take him to the 1,000 for the season, never the less Jack has had a wonderful year and already no doubt looking forward to next season.
Jim Robertson joined his old friend Wayne Read at the crease and scored 20, as they put on 74 runs. This then brought skipper Dhannie to the wicket and Keith soon settled in to hit a lovely cameo knock of 52 not out off 41 balls, including 8 fours in a undefeated stand of 98.
But it was Read who stole the show with his perfectly timed innings of 125 not out, from just 84 balls, with 20 fours, as he passed 1,300 runs for the season and hitting his forth hundred of the year.
In reply, The Mount went at the Belhus total straight from the off and very hard. M.Renvoize with 54 (10 fours), I.Franklen 45 in 28 balls (10 fours)were the main run-getters, but chasing such a big total was always going to be daunting and finally as a couple of wickets fell, Belhus began to exert more pressure until Mount's resistance gave out and their innings closed on 174 for 9 off 27.2 overs (Foley was unable to bat due to a nasty knock on his finger earlier in the day). Suraj Thapa picked up 3 for 30, but pick of the Belhus bowlers was Keith Dhannie, whose 4 for 14 off 5 overs (which nearly included a hat trick) ensured victory was ours and rounded off a very good day for him and no doubt Read wishing, the season didn't have to end.
Big thanks to Mike Randall for teas and Julie for scoring all season and Peter for all his hard work on the ground this year.
