WORLINGTON* v Belhus Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 15 May 2016 at 1pm
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 4 Wickets
Match report
Belhus finally broke their Worlington Village Cup hoodoo beating their Suffolk rivals on run rate in the first 20 overs after the match was Tied in extraordinary circumstances.
Worlington won the toss and Belhus started off brightly with Danny Norris claiming the scalp of danger man Richard Ford in a remarkably economical spell. However, Peachey and Graham Ford rebuilt the innings nicely and once Norris was bowled out, they started making headway on what is a very small ground. Hayward took a particular liking to the bowling of Guilbert and the lives of some cattle were in danger for a while. Day picked up some wickets towards the end and the Worlington total of 252 in 40 overs was more than expected at the halfway stage, but would have taken it before the match.
In response, Belhus lost Wells early and then set about building a platform. Read and Guilbert moved the score along steadily and then Dan Joyce continued the momentum after Read's dismissal. Winter then played a little cameo with some lusty blows getting Belhus well ahead of the run rate. With Fogg replacing Winter, Belhus required 5 off the final over and then 1 off the last 3 balls. After 2 successive dots, Joyce called Fogg through for the match-winning single off the last ball only to be run out spectacularly one-handed.
With the scores level at 252-6 apiece, nobody quite knew who would progress, but after looking in the Rules book it was Belhus who triumphed and will face Rettendon at North Stifford in the regional semi-final on 29th May.
