Match report
Batting first in this 40-overs match, Ardleigh Green despatched our bowling to all parts in just 31.5 overs.

Roy Smith was at his stunning best in stroking and blasting 181 in just 113 minutes off of 93 balls including 9 sixes. The bowler to suffer most was spinner Jim Banner who Smith deposited for 5 sixes in one particular over. An astonishing innings.

Ardleigh Green's Alum Surrey will remember the day for the wrong reason - he was dismissed for a golden duck. And Steve Tatem was run out without facing.

On the one bright side for Belhus - Roy Heffernan took 5 for 59.

In the run-chase after tea, we found ourselves in trouble at 12 for 2 but a few of our batsmen had a pretty good crack at the target as Wayne Read top-scored with a half century. Tom Thompson was dismissed for a second-ball duck as too was Jim Banner that just about capped his day. And if his innings wasn't enough, Roy Smith came on to bowl and took 3 for 9 (including his good friend Jim Banner), and he also clutched two catches to round off his day.

In the event, we lost by just 12 runs. A great game. Hopefully a few drinks were enjoyed after what was one of the club's most memorable matches - hereafter 'Smith's Match' it shall be known.

And we must thank Belhus scorer Lisa Cansdale for carrying out her task so conscientiously.
