Becontree 2nd XI 75 (Mandrake Khan 8 for 27)

Mandrake Khan was a friend of Ali Nagir. He hailed from St Lucia and was in the UK on holiday. We were told that "he bats a bit and bowls a bit".

Batting first, our 2nd XI found themselves in a spot of trouble at 24 for 3. But then Mandrake strode to the crease and proceeded to hold the innings together with a fine 64 to enable us to reach a modest 135 all out. He could indeed "bat a bit".

After tea, Mandrake opened the bowling and showed his speed by taking 8 for 27 in just 9.4 overs (including a hat trick and all of his victims were clean-bowled) and we won comfortably by 60 runs. He could, indeed "bowl a bit" !

It was Mandrake's day and one to remember for those who had the privilege of playing in this remarkable match.
