Match report Hadley batted first in this Bank Holiday match at Belhus Park and they posted a modest total of 129 thanks only to the one batsman to reach double figures - David East, who went on to represent Essex that season and subsequently appeared in 190 first class matches between 1981 and 1989 (and he equalled the world record number of catches in an innings - 8 in the Essex v Somerset match in 1985). John Lewis Jnr was in superb form with the ball in taking 6 for 36.

In our run-chase after tea, Denis Reed, Mark Winter and Vic Davies all got into the twenties but failed to maintain the momentum, and it was left to Andy Armit and Richard Harvey to see us home an honourable draw after 38 overs. Then it was off to 'The Archer' . . .
