Belhus opened their South Essex league campaign with a five wicket win at Orsett Recreation Ground. Under a cloudless sky and very warm conditions, Belhus opening bowler Hayden Squelch caught and bowled Jack Hart with the very first ball of the match as he earned figures of 1-12 from his opening spell of three overs. Squelch then returned to bowl the penultimate over of the Orsett innings and the Belhus bowler repeated his feat of taking a wicket with his first ball. On this occasion it was the solid number five batsman William Arrowsmith who was finally dismissed, being the last Orsett wicket to fall.

The Belhus innings started in similar vein, when Samuel Bunce was dismissed fourth ball of the first over, but then Liam Waters and Tyler Crosbie added 55 for the first wicket until the latter was second man out.

After Liam Waters was compulsorily retired by competition rules on reaching 25 runs, the run rate slowed as the School Lane team began to apply significant pressure. But with two runs required from the final seven deliveries, Jude Ranson settled the matter by scoring a winning boundary hit from the bowling of Rajan Kular.
