Upminster v Belhus Cricket Club Ladies on Tue 20 May 2014 at 6.30pm
Belhus Cricket Club Lost by 14 Runs
Match report
Upminster Ladies 103-2
Belhus Ladies 89-3
Both teams played their first outdoor match of the 2014 season beneath gathering storm clouds at Upminster Park. Belhus had a squad of thirteen players available for this match and the much improved visiting team came within 14 runs of the hosts' total, thanks to a late flurry of runs from Sarah Fergey and Allison Edmeades. The former had dispatched the first ball of the thirteenth over for a text book cover drive for four, arguably the highlight of the Belhus innings.
Earlier, both Emma Noller and Michelle Dixey struck three boundaries each for Upminster, but wickets were taken by Allison Edmeades and Jackie Norris. Edmeades claimed the wicket of opening batsman Emma Carter from the third ball of her second over, while Norris accounted for Rosie Pettingham with the final delivery of the fifteen-over innings. Belhus wicketkeeper Lynne Bonner put in another solid performance behind the stumps.
The Belhus innings suffered an early blow when Zara Blackmore clean bowled Rhiannan Jefferies with the first delivery, but Rachel Cordell was resolute in the face of a strong home attack. Blackmore went on to claim two wickets at a cost of just six runs, taking one wicket in each of her two overs. The remaining wicket to fall was collected by Dixey, from the final ball of her two-over spell. Two extras were were awarded for a wide or no ball, with no additional delivery.
We would like to thank our colleagues at Upminster CC for their hospitality and we look forward to their visit on Tuesday 3rd June.
