The first-ever Belhus 6th XI side travelled to Lake Meadows to take on Billericay 5th XI. A very creditable performance with the bat saw the home side reach 222 for 4 at tea. The hottest day of the year to date did not deter the fielding efforts of the visitors.

The response it seems was affected by the earlier effort or the excesses of tea and started badly with skipper Ruck being given out LBW on the first ball of the innings. At 28 for 7 an early departure was looking likely. However thanks to a fine 26 from Under 15 Ewan Day including 4 splendid straight drives, supported by debutant "parent" Neil Sullivan (14 not out) the score progressed to 72. Once Day had departed (another LBW victim), the last 2 Belhus batsmen quickly fell and the first ever 6th XI had to travel home thinking that a little more concentration on the batting could have secured a draw for the fledgling side.
