Pegasus & Corringham v Belhus Cricket Club Under 11B on Sun 09 Jun 2013 at 9.30am
Belhus Cricket Club Won by 59 Runs
Match report
Pegasus and Corringham U11B 234-7
Belhus U11B 295-1
Pegasus and Corringham won the toss and elected to bat in this ten a side pairs match on a cold, grey morning on the second ground at Herd Lane.
Belhus made an early breakthrough when Henry Challis bowled Pegs opener Luke Mitchell with the first ball of his second over. First change bowler Bradley Bunce started his spell by bowling George Perry without score and completed a wicket maiden. Later Billy Sloan was on a hat-trick when he took two wickets with his second and third deliveries of his first over; he bowled both players in the third pairing, Marco Williams and George Howgate. Of the seven wickets that were taken, six were bowled, which demonstrated the accuracy of the visiting attack, while the remaining wicket to fall was due to a stumping by the alertness of wicketkeeper and captain Frankie Debono.
After a very short break, the Belhus batsmen remained equally alert, especially in dealing with deliveries of low bounce. Daniel Newell, following up from his impressive 1-7 from two overs, hit the only boundary of the match, to finish with six not out, a score matched by his captain.
For the much younger Pegasus and Corringham side, James Dawes took the only Belhus wicket to fall, when he bowled Daniel Browne in the penultimate over. Match manager for Belhus, Cliff Cansdale said: "There were many positives from this match. I would like to thank Bob Mead for umpiring and special thanks are due to Alfie Debono, a member of our U15 team, for being a tremendous help with the match and team management. Alfie identified two development points, namely backing up by the non-striker, and sliding the bat in when running, which we discussed in the post-match debrief".
