This was 'Jim's Match' - the best ever performance against Belhus by an opposition player. Batting first, our openers got us off to an excellent start with a partnership of 55 and both Tom Waters and Andy Clark hit sixes. But then Ardleigh Green's opening bowler, Jim French, struck. Not only did he remove our openers, he dismissed the rest of our team! In an unbroken spell of 20.4 overs, Jim took all 10 Belhus wickets for 53 runs. We were finally dismissed for 135 with a last wicket partnership of 25 coming from father and son, Joe and Robert Waters. Robert Waters was our not out batsman.

When Ardleigh Geen batted, we had them in a spot of trouble when they were 72 for 4, but they engineered their way quite comfortably to victory by 4 wickets - thanks to Jim French who was 20 not out at the end and hit the winning boundary four.

Such feats are, of course, very rare indeed. And the Thurrock Gazette press report read " French fries Belhus" - and didn't he just. Well done Jim French.
