This match against Dover CC was played at the old Kent County Ground - the famous Crabble Ground as it was known (see 'Britain's Lost Cricket Grounds' by Chris Arnot 2011) - the scene of Jim Laker's best bowling performance for Essex CCC when taking 7 for 73 against Kent in 1962.

Dover batted first and we bowled well 9n a flat track to restrict them to 120 for 9 at tea (Vic Davies 4 for 30).

In reply, we didn't bat too well and found ourselves in deep trouble at 88 for 9 and the match looked all but over with the last two Belhus batsmen, Bob Young and Don Pegler, at the crease. Then, with the sun setting, they shared a fantastic last-wicket partnership of 32 to take our score up to 120 for 9 with the last ball of the match to be bowled.

As the Dover fielders closed in to prevent a quick single being taken, to everyone's astonishment, the Dover opening bowler, Buttifint, was called for a no ball for over-stepping! Thus we won by 1 wicket. It was one of the club's most memorable matches/victories

The Belhus players, and skipper Vic Davies in particular, celebrated late into the night at the White Cliffs Hotel on the sea front at Dover, where the team stayed before their match the following day against Bexhill CC in Sussex - 50 miles along the coast.
