Batting first in this Sunday friendly match, our 1st XI racked up a respectable total of 187 for 6 declared after 39 overs as Keith Clayton (55) and Geoff Morrant (50) stroked fine half-centuries.

After tea, Belhus paceman Bert Freeman ripped through the Marshalls batting line-up in taking 9 for 23 from 11 overs (7 of his victims were clean-bowled) as 6 Marshalls batsmen were dismissed for 'ducks'. It was a career-best performance for Bert who established a 'Club Record Best Bowling Performance in a 1st XI Match'.

At one stage, one of the Marshalls batsmen claimed that he was being distracted by the sun reflecting off of Bert's gold ring on his right (bowling) hand. The match continued - and we won. We haven't heard of the Marshalls since.
