Belhus Tour XI 78-5

Played on Saturday 30th July with an 11.30am start, this was the last match of the Club's first tour to Northern Ireland. It was a memorable day for Vic Davies who, early in the match, was badly hit in the eye by the ball while fielding at short leg to the bowling of Don Pegler. Stan Page substituted for Vic. Dave Francis took 4 wickets and Graham Cunliffe took 3 catches in the outfield as North Down declared on 167 for 6.

In our reply after tea, we proceeded to 78 for 5, but when it started to rain we quickly dashed off the field so that everyone could watch the football World Cup Final against West Germany on TV and our match was declared a draw - the only tour match we didn't lose!

In order to catch our evening flight back to London, the tour party left the ground during extra time at Wembley, and unfortunately missed England's historic victory over West Germany!

It was a thoroughly enjoyable week and Club secretary Andrew Merton was congratulated for organising the Club's very first, hugely successful tour.
